...Things

WELCOME to Auntie Matter Makes, the blog where I, Auntie Matter tell you about the things that I make.
Seems pretty straight forward, but you never know. Sometimes things on the internet are confusing...have you ever noticed that? Like recipes. Do people even TEST recipes anymore?! I doubt it, given that I've read at least 3 in the past month that have forgotten to list a key ingredient or direction. (Let's make a shitaki-noodle salad, but neglect to mention the type of noodles so everyone can join in on the guessing game fun!).
Like lots of things on the internet, this blog is bound to have mistakes, I'm sure I'll forget to tell you about something super basic, but also critical (like, oven temperature perhaps), but please just remember I'm a human doing this in my spare time because at some point in my life at least 4 people have told me I should start a blog. I expect that those four people will be the only habitual readers, and 3 of them are related to me, so we'll see how far this goes. But the truth is, I'm not doing this for you. I'm doing it for me, because I'm selfish and I have this desire for everyone to see what I come up with. Not because it is particularly amazing (although sometimes it is) but really because it helps me prove that I had a "non-zero day." [This is a phrase my amazing partner, Nicky has introduced to me, and I sort of love it, everyday that you do something, anything it counts as a non-zero day. Got out of bed today? That's a non-zero day. Made boxed mac and cheese for dinner? That's a non-zero day. Invented a recipe from scratch that turned out incredible and cannot wait to share with friends and family? That's also a non-zero day. Get it? It's sort of incredible and a great way to feel better if you are anything like me and perhaps have some self-worth/appreciation issues.]
Sometimes I might be humorous. Sometimes I might be boring. Sometimes I might be both at the same time. I guess that's the exciting part. I work with small children so you'll see lots of crafts and kid-things. I'm a child a heart so you'll learn my love of things like glitter and googly eyes. I love all things French and speak it like a French-speaking 5 year old, so you'll see occasional references en français but not always grammatically correct. I like to think of myself as pretty good at doing a lot of things well, but nothing outstanding. Except maybe variety. Food is probably the most common thing I'll share because I eat a lot of it, and to do that I usually make things, hence the whole blog-name thing.
I'll try to provide photos, but sometimes you might have to use your imagination. When I can provide loose recipes I will (but most of these things I pull out of my...you know what). When I steal..err...borrow recipes I'll share the sources with you, because I'm not a monster. At least not in the plagiarism sense of the word. I am a cheese monster. But you'll learn about that in time.

  3. I did NOT mean to delete this comment. It was in fact a very sweet comment. I have terribly fat fingers sometimes though and apparently Blogger does not allow for people to ever make mistakes. Now I am sad.
